...this humor, no matter how accidental, is certainly needed, for the Yearbook otherwise manages only a dull accuracy. No one particularly wants the slapstick which often clutters high school annuals (and indeed appears in a few of 321's captions--e.g. "Radcliffe girl with lab assistant: Using curves of eyebrows to raise the curve"). No one wants clown shots or old-new gimmicks, and we should be grateful that 321 avoids them. But the undergraduate and even Mother, would like a little humor. And 321 provides none, even when it is there to be shaken ripe from the limb...
Spring was as lovely as ever in Paris. Pale candle flames blossomed on the chestnut trees in the Champs Elysées, and the terrace cafés spread their chairs and tables out across the sidewalks again. Lovers exchanged lilies of the valley, and concierges, in good humor after the winter hibernation, restored their bird cages to outside window ledges. But beneath the soft blue sky, Paris was in torment; the war in Algeria was now like the Indo-China war at its worst. But unlike Indo-China in the days of Dienbienphu, no end, whether in defeat...
Short Game. In the vacation department, Ike's face was burned cherry red, his cough cured, his humor high, and he tackled Augusta's tough and tantalizing course every afternoon. He found his drives booming, his short game mediocre but good enough to score him in the high 80s. Evenings, in a long-established vacation ritual, were spent around the bridge table at "Mamie's Cottage." (Mamie herself took to her bed for a two-day rest, flew back to Washington at week's end to get ready for a heavy social week...

If you want to fight the religious trend, or the allegation of a religious trend, do it with better reporting; or do it, even, with a good, wholesome iconoclasm, a keener, truer satire with real humor.
