...They also figured that he had not shaken the unsavory image gained from his 1975 trial on charges of accepting a $10,000 bribe while serving as Nixon's Treasury Secretary. But Connally, for the moment at least, seems to have blunted both problems with a combination of humor and forthrightness. Said he to the New Hampshire legislature: "I have some background to talk to you no matter what your party affiliation." As for the bribery trial, says Connally, "the jury gave an answer for all time and all reasonable people, and that was simply not guilty...
...producing a continual, stomach-tightening sense of menace. There is surprisingly little blood in the movie, scarcely any nudity, and, considering the story it comes out of, and the opportunities available for flat-out ghoulishness, Carpenter has produced a tame and tactful film. However, most of Assault's quirky humor and antic allusiveness have been rubbed away, and Halloween, by comparison, is thinned by the expenditure of so much energy towards pure scariness. Kugelmass appears even more withered and yellow when juxtaposed with the other, better shows. Therefore, unless Kugelmass can be sparked with the same humor, vitality and depth as the Shaffer plays, perhaps it would be best left to succumb to another of biology's theories--survival of the fittest. Ear and Eye are excellent, even with some marginal performances, and deserve to be presented alone...
