Despite occasional absurdities, the film is faithful to the spirit of small-town life. Bartlett lovingly chronicles the story of Ruby in her own setting: clam suppers, TV and sixpacks, high school teachers, neighbors. Ruth Hurd, who actually is a busdriver, plays Ruby.
