...those stalls not reserved for the ordained. Already Dr. Stires had received a magnificent Bible from Mrs. George Hardwick, his 80-year old mother-in-law; already 80 of his admiring colleagues had presented him with an amethyst ring; already the great procession -so long that the processional hymn was sung through four times -had followed the crucifer up the aisle, while outside on Fifth Ave. motor horns blared interrogatively, and ladies on their way out to luncheon found their cars blocked by a crowd of the curious, who lingered about the steps of the old limestone fane kept...

...smell of burning leaves, and blew back over the moving column of priests, over the officers of the council, over the richly vested phalanx of Bishops who brought up the rear. The thurifers entered the Church. There was a rustle as the multitude stood up. Then candles were lit, hymn books opened, and to the thunder that darkly strode from the organ pipes, the chanting voices of a choir of monks and the solemn soundless rhythm of the censers swinging on their chains from the wrists of the thurifers, the procession moved up the aisle. ...recent book of Henry Cabot Lodge is the fall edition of the Hymn of Hate. It is a futile effort at self-defense-an apology weakly put forth; a retreat without a single handsome feature. No one could expect, from a pen dipped in venom, a fair or impartial appraisement of Woodrow Wilson; especially from one who, where Woodrow Wilson's policies were concerned, was incapable of having a generous thought. It is regrettable, indeed, that at the end of his so distinguished a career a man should have put his great talents to so base...

Rutgers College, now Rutgers University, was a ring-leader in the inauguration of intercollegiate football. Back in 1875 or thereabouts she, with Yale and Princeton, arranged the first intercollegiate football schedule. She is also the home of that deathless hymn, "I'd Die for Dear Old Rutgers!" We seem to see a connection...
