...course, ever since Adams and Jefferson, there has been a tradition of father-son rivalry in the White House. Eisenhower helpfully told reporters he couldn't think of a single idea Nixon contributed during their eight-year tenure together. Hubert Humphrey died politically in Lyndon Johnson's war. When George Bush promised a "kinder, gentler nation" in 1988, he meant kinder and gentler than Ronald Reagan...
...legacy. The film's climactic orgy scene had threatened to earn it a restrictive NC-17 rating. According to the film's producer, Jan Harlan, Kubrick realized that he would have to make adjustments to earn an R rating. Rather than cut his film, he came up with the idea of digitally adding figures to partly hide the most explicit 65 seconds of the scene when it is shown to U.S. audiences. Just in case Ted Turner could resist talking chimps, the creators have the fake network run by a mean, stupid Australian mogul to mock Turner's rival, Rupert Murdoch. The real fear is that TBS's Turner might turn this show into an actual channel. Chimps all day may sound appealing...
