...fast approaching a market top. My best Wall Street sources are in awe at how far stocks have risen in the past three years, and privately many say they are bracing for a fall. They won't necessarily be right. But the tough job scene for their ilk is evidence of their conviction. Keeping down head count in good times may be a grim new reality. But at some level it represents Wall Street's collective stab at timing the market...

That noble rock had seemed like such a civilized destroyer. Your average catastrophe gives little warning. Tidal waves, volcanoes, earthquakes and their ilk just barge in unannounced and wreak havoc. So rude! Not 1997 XF11, as the scientists so imaginatively named our space Kevorkian. It made a reservation. We were provided the exact date of arrival: Oct. 26, 2028. A Thursday. Gives you time to clear some space on your calendar, pencil in the appointment. Note to Self: Thursday--run amuck in sheer terror before being blown to smithereens along with everyone and everything I've ever known and loved...

Isn't this the guy whose links to an investment bank that underwrote Mexican bonds came under scrutiny after he mobilized the financial rescue of Mexico that included $20 billion from the U.S.? By destabilizing foreign currencies, Rubin and his ilk have done more to propagate human misery than the worst despots. They charge high interest rates to foreign countries, knowing that the U.S. taxpayer or the International Monetary Fund will aid these nations. JERRY JUNG Bloomfield Hills, Mich...

...This ilk of retro-bike can most aptly be dubbed the "French Country Bike." It smacks of poignant cinematic moments of older French men rounding the corner to buy bread in the village center. These bikes should preferably be viewed in black and white. One retro-biker, who wishes to remain anonymous, confessed "I don't know what it is about this bike, it's just so cool, it's like I'm in an old Godard movie or something." Or something is right. The highest concentration of these retro-bikes can be found on the racks in front...

There has been additional evidence to indicate that Mandela's attitude toward his comrades has changed little since his rise to office. If anything, at least some of Mandela's time in office has been spent in the acquisition of new friends of the Qaddafi-esque ilk. Perhaps even more disquieting than the largely symbolic fraternity between Qaddafi and Mandela, were last year's allegations that Mandela intended to sell chemical weapons to Syrian dictator Hafiz al-Assad. This episode was followed by a state visit by Vice President Al Gore Jr. '69 to South Africa during which Gore...
