...work mostly with nonprofits like hospices andfood banks. Our 55-year-old company, VALIC, was highly respected for its integrity and personal service. AIG is now selling our profitable company to the highest bidder to help pay back taxpayers. The good news is that we are reversing our ill-advised name change, dropping AIG Retirement in favor of our original name. But what am I supposed to do with all my AIG-embroidered hats, shirts and jackets? John Wilkins, APTOS, CALIF...
...little Anglo-Saxon sniffiness here. Joffe admits that Europe's two big hitters are avoiding the trickier parts of Afghanistan. It seems that NATO's reputation is being built more on British (and Dutch) sacrifice than anyone else's. Banned pro-democracy groups, which are happy for any opportunity to criticize the authoritarian government, call the mining venture an "ill-begotten scheme." Earlier this month, a dissident Buddhist monk, Thich Quang Do, said that strip mining will destroy the way of life of the region's ethnic minorities. He added that the project created "an illustration of Vietnam's dependence on China." There has been no such outcry against U.S. aluminum...
