Faust recently opened an imaging center where scientists working next to each other use state-of-the-art microscopes to examine samples.
University President Drew G. Faust and Dean of Science Jeremy Bloxham cut the ribbon on the Center for Biological Imaging, a facility that, in partnership with optical manufacturer Carl Zeiss MicroImaging, will offer leased imaging equipment updated every three years.
“Not only does the Center for Biological Imaging have state-of-the-art Zeiss imaging equipment, it will continue to have that equipment under the very special agreement that Zeiss and MCB have agreed upon,” Faust said.
His most recent invention is a genome imaging technology that can track billions of interactions between fragments of DNA.
Part of the reason for the rise, say experts, has to do with improved genetic and imaging techniques that give women a lot of information about their tumors and the prognosis of their disease, which may sway them to take extreme measures to avoid recurrence.
