Best is Soarin' over California. You sit in a chair that, when the lights go down, moves up and forward to put you inside a curved IMAX screen. The effect is of flying in a magic-carpet hang glider, gazing down at rivers, farms, skiers, hot-air balloonists, the coast and the desert, San Francisco Bay and, of course, Disneyland. As you pass over an orange grove, the scent of the fruit tickles your nostrils. You fly over a golf course and--whack!--a ball sails toward and past you. In this vertiginous, multisensory California tour, state...
...MacCready's daydreams involved nature's largest flying creation, the pterodactyl, which disappeared with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. In 1986 a MacCready-inspired, wing-flapping, computer-brained, radio-controlled and astonishingly realistic pterodactyl was photographed as it swept over Death Valley, Calif., for the Smithsonian Institution's IMAX film On the Wing. Today his Gossamer Condor hangs alongside the Wright Brothers' Flyer and Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis in the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, which also includes the Gossamer Albatross and the pterodactyl in its permanent collection...

Did you catch the live Madonna concert webcast on Tuesday night...
...your cellphone?' etc. etc. Neither of us brought up the movie for the rest of the night. Why would we? The Perfect Storm had absolutely nothing going for it-no character development, no suspense (we all knew the real story), no payoff. It would have played better as an IMAX two-hour CGI wave fest. And just as I tuned out in The Patriot to start asking myself important questions about the film's subject matter, I did the same for The Perfect Storm. Did they slaughter real fish for the packing sequences? Did the PETA get upset...
...hard to imagine being like 28-year-old Shaquille O'Neal. At 7 ft. 1 in. and 320 lbs., he is IMAX big, a human order of supersize fries, a skyscraper in size-22 sneakers. NBA stars, of course, tend to be tall, but there's usually a sense of elongation, of a body stretched, like gum, until it is long and thin. O'Neal seems like a man who has been magnified. He is not just tall; he is massive...
