Underground rap may soon have an impact on television too. MTV is developing a sketch-comedy series based on Lyricist Lounge, a showcase founded in New York City in 1991 by Anthony Marshall and Danny Castro as a place for unsigned rap artists to display their skills. The founders have since taken their open-mike show on tour and released a compilation album of highlights (Mos Def and Q-Tip make guest-star appearances...

...silence is deafening: Two days after the Mars Polar Lander was supposed to have touched down and started sending back signals from the Red Planet's south pole, and still there is no word. The possibilities: The craft could have gone into a protective sleep mode after impact, and has so far missed its window of opportunity for transmission back to Earth. It's also conceivable that the probe landed on its side, making a clear transmission path even more difficult. The possibility that NASA doesn't want to think about yet is that the craft didn't survive...

...America. It should come as no surprise that Rosetta, this year's controversial winner of the Palm, is being released in the US with little fanfare, and probably to a limited run.
