Last week Newport Industries, Inc., one of the two principal U. S. companies producing naval stores, reported earnings of $295,117 for 1935, as against $161,619 the year before. More remarkable, Loew's Inc., financially strongest of U. S. cinema companies, but a cinema company after all, sold a $15,000,000 debenture issue maturing in ten years with a 3½% coupon.
