Residents deserted downtown Ascuncion streets Thursday when firefights involving cannon, recoilless rifles and heavy machine guns broke out in the most serious incident against Stroessner since he took power.
The letter described the dinner incident as "very subtle" and one that "resulted from the kind of insensitivity in which we can participate without meaning to offend anyone."
The muggers took the student's wallet, removed the cash inside--$15 U.S. and $23 Canadian--and tossed the wallet back at him, according to the student and the Harvard University Police report on the incident.
The teller gave $2780 to the man, who escaped on foot, then reported the incident to her superiors, said Lloyd E. Wheeler, financial relations manager and spokesperson for the Bank of Boston.
FBI and Cambridge Police agents arrived on the scene shortly after the incident, at which time the bank was closed.
