Nolan lives in Los Angeles with his wife (and producing partner) Emma Thomas and their infant daughter. He's writing his next project, a biopic of Howard Hughes. Again he'll plumb the depths of human neuroses and take a funny man to the dark side--in this case, Jim Carrey as the reclusive billionaire. "It's about the extremes to which one man can live--the glamour, the wealth, then the claustrophobic unhappiness," says Nolan with the most benign smile possible...

...debate over how long to breast-feed a child has probably been going on as long as children have been breast-fed. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies nurse for six months and, if possible, for 12 or more. Instead of rushing to the crib when the baby cries, parents should respond at increasing intervals, teaching the child to fall asleep alone. Symptoms of depression in exhausted mothers were also reduced...

This is national infant Immunization Week. Now that's not a subject I would normally deem column worthy, but in this case the irony is too rich to ignore. For even as it celebrates the benefits of childhood vaccination, the U.S. is running out of the very vaccines needed to do the job. The biggest shortfalls: chicken-pox vaccine, various tetanus vaccines and the so-called pneumococcal conjugate vaccine...
