...white people; they ceased to see the great wrong clearly, as, in fact, they ceased to see black people at all. Worse, the crime was so immense that white Americans resorted to racism as protection against the implications - as a way of mitigating their own offense. If blacks are inferior, then the crime of enslaving them and treating them badly becomes less, becomes almost... natural...
...result, lurching haphazardly between melodrama and MTM-lite comedy, is not just inferior but unsettlingly wrong, like a beloved relative reanimated as a zombie. Moore and Harper click instantly--Rhoda might well have been cryogenically preserved since 1978, and shows charming touches of her mother Ida when hectoring her own daughter--but they're burdened with sentimentality and limp one-liners. The Mary we see here shows glimpses of her self-effacing but strong self, yet at other times, incongruously, seems to have become a helpless uptown lady-who-lunches and slips into self-help-speak like...
Amtrack was clearly looking out for the late-January travelers with their release of the newer, sleeker and faster Acela train. Apparently it should have taken more than three hours to travel from New Haven, the location of that inferior bulldog-crazed psuedo-university, to Boston's South Station train station. But the ride was barely longer than two hours! The other Harvard students (who had also been sucked into that embarrassment of a college and pathetic excuse of a "town") on the Acela train rejoiced at the speed with which they were whisked away to less hostile territory...
...curiosity seekers, Einstein's executors secretly scattered his ashes. But they were defeated at least in part by a pathologist who carried off his brain in hopes of learning the secrets of his genius. Only recently Canadian researchers, probing those pickled remains, found that he had an unusually large inferior parietal lobe--a center of mathematical thought and spatial imagery--and shorter connections between the frontal and temporal lobes. More definitive insights, though, are emerging from old Einstein letters and papers. These are finally coming to light after years of resistance by executors eager to shield the great relativist...
...were after the war, as they went on to discredit not only fascism but communism as well, that strength still came at a terrible cost. "How much happier a world it would be if one did not have to mount crusades against racism, segregation, a Holocaust, the extermination of 'inferior peoples,'" notes presidential historian Robert Dallek. "We don't need evil. We'd do fine without Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot. Think of the amount of money and energy used in World War II--if only they could have been used in constructive ways. Good doesn't need evil...
