Yesterday afternoon a change was made in the recent make-up of the infield. Clark, who has been playing first base, was put on third and McCornick, last year's Freshman pitcher, was tried at first. McCornick did some good throwing and proved to be a fair man on receiving thrown balls, although he is clearly inexperienced in playing the position. Clark seems to be improving in his throw, getting it off in better style than he did some time ago. His fielding was clean and fast...
From the very first, the number of men that turned out for the 1901 nine was smaller than that of recent years, as at no time was the number more than 40. Nevertheless, with the exception of the outfield, the material could hardly have been better. For the infield a number of men have shown up most promisingly, having displayed unusual capabilities both in fielding and batting. Of these, Robinson at third, Fincke at second, and Kendall at first seem to be the best. All are good fielders and strong hitters...
After the game the regular fielding practice presented the best opportunity that has been offered this year of judging of the material for the 'Varsity infield. All of the men seemed quick and accurate in their fielding. The throws were got off well and sent with speed and precision. Thrown balls were also handled well, especially by Haughton at second and Bergen at third...

He is the most promising candidate for a field position next to the three men above mentioned. In the infield Foster, Haughton and Lewis are doing good work, but Haughton seems to have the best chance for first if his batting continues of a high standard. The most promising men for the other infield positions are: For second base-Vincent, Haskell, Maguire, Farrington, Chandler, Holt and Davis; for third-Bergen...
