...lost to Brown at Providence by 6 to 7. The game schedule with Dartmouth for Wednesday was prevented by rain. Yale made only six hits off Stevens of Andover and was shut out in seven innings. The outfield played well and Camp and Quinby did good work in the infield. Guernsey, who played third base on account of a slight injury to Brown, was not satisfactory. Cook pitched his first game this season and allowed Andover only two hits. The Brown game was a tie until the fourteenth inning, when Captain Clark made a home run. Every...
Clarkson pitched a strong, consistent game, striking out thirteen men and allowing only three hits. J. D. Clark threw to bases well and fielded his position in good style. The Harvard infield did surprisingly good work and held its own with the strong Yale infield. The outfield, however, was weak, and, with the exception of Van Amringe, was outplayed by Yale. Story and Van Amringe did the best batting, and the whole team showed an improvement in this respect...
...University nine defeated Columbia Saturday afternoon by making twenty-two hits against poor pitching and by taking advantage of Columbia's fielding errors. Harvard made seven errors, some of which were inexcusable, and showed a tendency to go to pieces at critical times in the infield. Columbia's run in the second inning was due to Clarke's wild throw and Fincke's fumble of an easy grounder. In the seventh inning Fincke missed two thrown balls and Clarke one, allowing two runs to be scored. Loughlin's and Coolidge's errors were equally inexcusable, but did not happen...
Although the Freshmen have lost several games, and have at time showed poor form, the team is now in good condition. The old weakness at catcher has been remedied by playing J. D. Clark there, and the battery is now above the average of Freshman teams. The infield is still weak, but during the last few days the men have shown a little more accuracy and speed. Story at third base and Baldwin at first are both reliable men, but Lancy and Jackson at shortstop and second base are not covering enough ground. The outfield is slightly improved...
Kernan was not quite up to form, yet he did not give a base and kept the hits well scattered until the ninth inning, when Bowdoin earned two runs. He did not show good judgment in fielding his position and made a bad throw to first. The infield did by far the poorest work that the team has done this year. Fincke and George made errors, and Kendall and Clark made mistakes in judgment which are inexcusable at this time in the season. The outfielders played well, especially Loughlin, who covered a great deal of ground and threw well...
