...Jaynes, Stillman, Ewer, Christenson and Wendell in the outfield. Loughlin, Christenson, Kendall, Wendell, Reid, J. D. Clark and Stillman were given chances at batting and base-running. Kernan and McDonald held the batters down well. The base-running lacked dash, partly on account of the cold, wet day. The infield played fairly well, especially Coolidge and G. C. Clark. The outfielders threw quickly and fairly accurately, but were not at all sure in their fielding, except on balls batted directly at them. The team is beginning to show good judgment in handling the ball, and better team work...
...defeated in a well played game yesterday afternoon by the Cambridge High and Latin School, by a score of 4 to 0. The chief cause of the defeat was poor batting by the entire team; but one hit was made, and the ball was seldom knocked out of the infield. Coonley, who pitched, has had little practice, but did fairly well and with good support would probably have won his game. Neither Bartlett nor Marean caught satisfactorily, both throwing poorly and dropping many pitched balls. Foster, at first base, was also weak in fielding and at times showed poor judgment...
...infield, the best work was done by George and G. C. Clark. Coolidge played well except for one bad throw. J. D. Clark did not show up well at first base, and was unable to hit the ball outside of the diamond. Wendell, in left field, played the best game for Harvard, making four clean singles and a catch which resulted in a double play. He was weak, however, in base-running. Loughlin played his usual lively game and showed ability to take advantage of opponents' misplays...
...Freshman baseball squad was cut down for the fifth time Saturday afternoon and is now reduced to twenty-two men. The team is still weak at first base and behind the bat, but the infield is fairly promising. There is excellent pitching material. As there have been only two days of out-door practice, very little can be said of the outfield. Saturday afternoon two nines were picked and a five inning game was played. The following men, not including the batteries, make up the squad: First base--Baldwin, Foster, Lancy; second base--Daly, Jackson, Black; third base -- Forsman, Story...
...promise. Judging from their work in the cage, Clark and Ewer seem likely to become good hitters. Ewer, however, is handicapped by being left-handed. Clay is still weak at batting, and both he and Clark are somewhat slow. As in the case of the other candidates for the infield, nothing can safely be predicted of these men until after outdoor work has begun. All three throw well...
