Iraqi deserters or scouts unfortunate enough to come across Charlie Rock's newly ordered checkpoints are bearing the brunt of the company's outrage. "Don't look at me. Don't f___ing look at me, or I swear to God I'll cut you in half," yells Sergeant Patrick Dunleavy at Khaled, 23, who says he is fleeing Baghdad and who, from his uniform, appears to be a Republican Guard deserter. ...years the U.S. has been accustomed to lead[ing] the free world, and in that time Western Europe rose from the ashes behind a shield of U.S. men and money. The song reached No. 4 in the Dutch pop charts despite, or perhaps because of, being banned by some stations...

...sense of purpose meals provide. Eating gives me something to do. The closest I come to cheating happens one afternoon in the spa while undergoing a papaya body-wrap treat-ment. As I lie mari-nating in the pulpy, orange goop, I realize that with a little bend-ing, I could eat the for-bidden fruit slathered on my shoulder. I resist. I'm not hungry, only bored...
