His Wash ington-based Sculpture Placement organization will put on twelve shows this year at urban plazas, resort hotels, corporate headquarters and airports. They are not aimed only at collectors. "We do some advertising in ARTnews, but we also advertise in Architectural Digest, " says Johnson. "That's where the money and power for outdoor sculpture is." In the art world Johnson has been as much a patron as a producer. He has provided substantial funding...

...ancient days, before Watergate made Woodward and Bernstein household words, investigative reporting meant Drew Pearson. He was, as TIME said then, "the most in tensely feared and hated man in Washington." From the '30s to the '60s, scoops in his syndicated column ("Wash ington Merry-Go-Round") or on his Sunday radio broad casts became headlines: the Roosevelt court-packing plan, F.D.R.'s destroyers-for-bases swap with Churchill, the Patton soldier-slapping incident, Sherman Adams' vicuna coat and many other tales, worthy and less worthy...

Somehow, the computer assigned Flight 37 and Flight 182 to the same airspace at the same moment. The error was theoretically impossible, but something like it happened again last week. Psychologists and other social scientists study the actions and reactions of the albino rat to learn about human behavior. Now a University of Wash ington psychologist, Robert B. Lockard, suggests in American Psychologist that the laboratory lessons may be invalid, and that the rats do not prove much about people. The reason is that the albino rat-a mutant form of the wild brown rat-is a genetic monster of dubious value to research. Caged and bred in captivity for more than a century, it is a man-made abomination-fat and degenerate, faithful neither to its wild ancestry...
