...Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has been catapulted from the shadows into the most public of positions: President of all Russia. He is about to inherit constitutional powers akin to a Czar's in what is called an election but amounts to a coronation. But make no mistake: this was not a fair fight. ...still have a long way to go, of course, to get to the use-anywhere, anytime-you-like dream machine. When that device arrives, I predict it will inherit the best genes of the Palm line: the readable color of the IIIc, the thinness of the V and the built-in wireless connectivity of the VII (although at broadband speeds, so you can pull down video and audio). They were officials of the American Civil Liberties Union so eager for a test case to overturn a new Tennessee law prohibiting the teaching of evolution that they promised to pay the expenses of the prosecution! The A.C.L.U. advertised for a volunteer and found one John Scopes, football coach and science teacher, willing to take...
