...Quayle claims vindication. No, he hasn't discovered that potato really has an e after all. But in his just-published memoir, Standing Firm, he does insist that the world has come his way on the question of family values and Murphy Brown. Even Bill Clinton, Quayle observes, has said "there were a lot of very good things" in Quayle's famous speech on the subject...

Despite the steady decline in profits, the managers still have not caught on. For example, while they readily acknowledge that the Cambridge music market is one of the most competitive in the country, they insist on devoting an entire floor of the store to music, and then wondering why exactly that department loses money...

...questions unanswered yet seems appropriate at the same time. Rather than trying to psychoanalyze the pianist, the film seems content to keep the theme of Gould open to interpretation. The film derives much of its humor from the ongoing bewilderment and second-guessing of his friends. Why did Gould insist upon wearing a scarf, hat, and gloves throughout the summer? Perhaps what is needed is two-tiered system in which students can satisfy their distribution requirements either through the Core, or in the departments themselves (where, ideally, class size would be much smaller). Either way, nothing will change unless the students themselves...
