Usage:

Perhaps not. But increasingly, well-known playwrights are using legal pressure to insist that their intentions are respected. Last week Arthur Miller for the second time forced an avant-garde Manhattan theater troupe, the Wooster Group, to stop using portions of his play The Crucible in a production called L.S.D. In August, Edward Albee compelled a Texas stage company, Theater Arlington, to cut short its revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? The production had converted Albee's squabbling heterosexual couples into a quartet of gay men. The director points to the oft-repeated rumor that this was Albee...

...bombings of two clinics in Florida. One of them had been joined by the other man's brother in the kidnaping of an Illinois doctor who performed abortions and the physician's wife. The three men claimed they belonged to the Army of God, a group that investigators insist had only the three members, although anonymous callers claiming responsibility for later attacks have used the same name. Curtis Anton Beseda, an unemployed roofer, confessed his guilt while on trial for four arson attacks last year on clinics in Everett and Bellingham, Wash. He said he had done the torchings...

...titles of six poems in a row, even an occasional date. This, son, makes for interesting (if effortless) reading and that is what gets A's. Underline them, capitalize them, inset them in outline form: be sure we don't miss them. Why do you think all exams insist at the top, "Illustrate"; "Be specific"; etc.? They mean it. The illustrations, of course, need not be singularly relevant; but they must be there. If Vague Generalities are anathema, sparkling chips of concrete scattered throughout your blue book will have you up for sainthood. Or at least Dean's list, Name...

...reprise, I argued in my letter that the Final Clubs' role in the life of the College is inconsequential; that their discriminatory practices do no serious harm; and that it is puritanical, in that circumstance, to insist they change their ways or depart our midst. I implied that we all profit form having some among as who march to a different drummer. Laissez-faire. In his response, Stevens charges me with inconsistency, recalling, quite mistakenly, that three years ago I argued in favor of restricting the rights of homosexuals. Not so. Then, as now, I argued against restricting individual freedom...

...course, even Utopia can only "minimize." No state can exist unless in imposes some values on all. Though some may disagree, we impose a common definition of murder and insist that all abide by it. (And make no mistake, even on a matter so obvious--to us--as this, there are entire cultures that do disagree, usually in the form of giving the defense of one's honor a higher priority than the protection of human life.) So, with many other things. It is also true (and this, no doubt, is where us old crocks get out of synch) that...
