Really, really, I recommend that you read Mr. Zbigniew Herbert. He is a serious poet, full of beauty that does not insult our modern post-atrocity sensibilities. A Polish poet born in 1950 who was active in his country's anti-Communist movement, Herbert died in 1998, leaving behind an oeuvre that begins with spare poems about creation, antiquity and art. He then continues those themes through increasingly pointed and readable poetry while also developing a strong form of the prose poem that mixes fairy tales, images from everyday life and an aphoristic style. The recently published posthumous collection Elegy...
More important, mandatory minimums for nonviolent (and arguably victimless) drug crimes insult justice. Most mandatory sentences were designed as weapons in the drug war, with an awful consequence: we now live in a country where it's common to get a longer sentence for selling a neighbor a joint than for, say, sexually abusing her. And never...

Be aware that as a visitor, you will be expected to consume large amounts of local fare. Refusal to accept native cuisine will in many cases be considered a personal insult. (Note: The word "snack," common in native vocabulary, is often used to describe the local custom of consuming food every five minutes.) In the evenings, attractions may include rented movies, video games, visits from tribal chieftains from remote regions and little brothers rolling around on the floor in front...
...with the making of cartoon hits from The Little Mermaid through The Lion King, believes he has everything to prove. For years, he was known as "the golden retriever"--the superefficient executive who, revved up on diet soda, worked from dawn to dinner. But the nickname contained an implicit insult: Can a dog--even a clever dog--be creative...
