Housed in the new Interior Building's seventh-floor penthouse, the studio is planned for the launching of new ideas in Government broadcasting. The idea man is Shannon Allen, acting radio section director of the Interior Department's Division of Information. A onetime NBC production man, he has the job of coordinating broadcasting activities of all Interior Department bureaus, furnishing radioactive bureau heads with the professional touch. While Secretary of the Interior Harold LeClair Ickes and his bride were having fun in Alaska, 2 of his kin were having fun at the 11th annual reunion of the Clan Ickes at Ickesberg, Pa. Sister Julia came on from Altoona. Distant Cousin Bill, a $1,300 clerk in Cousin Harold's PWA, and Third Cousin Patrick, a $1,620 clerk in his National Park Service, came on from Washington. As a crowning gesture, one "Eastland" squadron located the defenders' GHQ at Hornchurch, Essex, gleefully swooped down to the attack just as the Air Secretary...
...most recent killing of the Lamp Post, and its payment was proof enough to skeptical Brazilians that this time the Government believed him dead. The six heads were the grisly gift from the remaining members of the Lamp Post's gang, and belonged to inhabitants of a remote interior settlement who were massacred and decapitated in retaliation for the Lamp Post's death. One head was that of the aged grandfather of an Alagoas police lieutenant who led the attack on the bandit chief...
...last summer, energetic President Smith started a drive to raise $100,000 for permanent quarters. Glad to get $80,000, the Festival committee commissioned Finnish Architect Eliel Saarinen to design the Shed-a fan-shaped, open-sided building covering an acre and a half, its roof supported by three interior pillars and a colonnade. The Shed's acoustics are so excellent that an orchestral pianissimo can be heard by an overflow audience outside the colonnade. Last week, during the first of this season's six concerts, Miss Smith launched a campaign for $58,000 to curtain the sides...
