This was no invalid's gesture-it was one of the finest performances of Tristan und Isolde in recent years. The conductor was Sir Thomas Beecham, and the cast a group of top-flight singers, some from Manhattan's Metropolitan. Isolde spent her first act reclining on a shipboard divan, with the necessary business carried out by her maid Brangäne. This calendar is invalid as far as students in the military reserve groups are concerned since these students are expected to receive orders to appear in Cambridge by the first of July. It is still not certain whether the Navy will grant leaves to men during the recesses or not, but at any rate all courses given by the University will be discontinued during these periods...
