Officials at some of the initial H1N1 clinics offered in Polk County, Iowa, this month were deluged by public demand. The county ultimately expects to receive 273,000 doses of the H1NI vaccine, but had to make do with 6,000 out of the 8,400 doses allocated in the initial shipment. "We were overwhelmed," Rick Kozin, spokesperson for the department says. "During both of the last two clinics we ran out of vaccines before we could treat all the people who were in line. People were frustrated, as were we, and disappointed that they were going to have...

...friendly fire when a U.S. artillery shell struck near the South Vietnamese village of Tu Chanh. His mother, brokenhearted, did what any other mother would--or should--do when her child is killed in an illegal and immoral war: she went on a search for the truth. Mullen, an Iowa homemaker who died on Oct. 2 at 92, spent more than two decades probing her son's death. The backlash has been tremendous, as evidenced partly by the many recent articles and letters in the Des Moines Register. Lifelong Republicans have vowed never to vote for him again. Iowa ranks third in the nation in percentage of people over 85 and, no doubt, in Medicare recipients, so we know what a government-run, one-payer system can do, and most of us are demanding that a public option be included. So when Grassley puts on his flannel shirt...

...roast. (Both types of Via tasted better when the water had a minute to cool.) I wouldn't replace my home-brewed with it, but if my sister-in-law served it to me, it would not strain family relations; it might have made a suspect motel in Davenport, Iowa, slightly less depressing. I'm finishing the Colombian as I type this...
