Died. Lieut. General John W. ("Iron Mike") O'Daniel, 81, commander of one of the first American military-assistance groups in Indochina; in San Diego, Calif. O'Daniel earned his nickname after surviving a German bullet that passed through his left cheek during World War I. ...Eastern Europeans are being forced to foot part of the bill. They will pay $3.3 billion for Soviet gas and oil this year compared with $1.2 billion in 1973.
