Died. Taizo Ishizaka, 88, elder statesman of Japanese industry; of a stroke; in Tokyo. A successful insurance executive before World War II, Ishizaka was called from retirement in 1948 to rescue the Toshiba company from bankruptcy, went on to head the electronics giant for 17 years. An affable, scholarly man who made pottery and wrote poetry, he held hundreds of management, advisory and honorary posts in business and public affairs.
