...this principle—shutting down Afghanistan’s terrorist camps through military force and initiating intelligence reform—a sense of self-importance led the administration to embark on a very indirect, inefficient, and decades-long campaign to rid the world of despotic governments and radical Islam and install democratic regimes where either is found...

...because in his speech in Germany, the Pope had effectively challenged Muslims to an inter-faith dialogue less preoccupied with diplomacy. Of course, that speech turned into a worldwide diplomatic incident, largely because Benedict had cited a 14th century Byzantine emperor's statement branding the contribution to religion of Islam's Prophet Muhammad as "things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." I disagree with any attempt to draw a line between Islam and Christianity by trying to prove that the former is more "irrational" than the latter. Christianity's violent past shows that such a claim can't be justified. Andriy Sukhodub Dundee, Scotland...

...None of the Abrahamic faiths-Islam, Christianity and Judaism-are toothless religions. The Pope should recall the Crusades, when the church used the same sword to further its cause. The Bible says, "First take the log out of your own eye and then you shall see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye" (Matthew 7: 5). At a time when relations between the Muslim and Christian worlds are tense, the Pope's statement added fuel to the fire. It is important that we all respect one another's religion.
