Hopefully these initial plans will increase undergraduates’ understanding of Islam. Record enrollment in Arabic language (a 20% increase in the past year alone) and Foreign Cultures classes on “Islamic understanding” reflects Harvard students’ awareness of Islam as a global issue and their motivation to resolve conflict. The Alwaleed program may someday offer certificates or even undergraduate degrees.
