...perfectionist Barnova in most of the crucial positions. Choreographers Fokine, Massine, Dolin, and Nijinska deserve an equal share of the credit for a large part of the success of the Ballet Theatre is due to their interpretations. Possibly the only weak point in the show is the orchestra, which isn't large enough to handle some of the music. But the Ballet Theatre gives the rare combination of classical favorites and the most modern ballets masterfully carried out on the same program. The end of the week and the departure of the Ballet will come much too soon...

...other half of the U.T. program isn't its better half, either. Texans aren't going to like "Men of Texas," and everybody else is going to hate it. A lot of business about "those hot-blooded Texans gettin' rid of those damyankees" winds up, ironically enough, with Sam Houston appearing out of the clouds, and orating wildly with a lush New England accent. That'll give you a rough idea of what goes on for an hour and a quarter, Texas Standard Time. Broderick Crawford manages to portray a refreshingly different sort of villain, but aside from that--well...

...misplaced, sophisticated dance team and a couple of singers pull down the average, but Willie Howard usually pops up again to make you forget it. Only the headliners are really good and this conglomeration isn't turned into a really good show.
