...Harvard's history shows that this isn't a good idea. Harvard currently owns $16 million worth of combined stock in Kohl's and Target department stores, both of which sell clothing that is produced in notorious sweatshops. Last June, an attempt to organize for an eight-cents-per-item raise was brutally crushed by management in a factory producing clothes for Kohl's and Target, which fired hundreds of workers to teach them a lesson, according to the National Labor Committee. Harvard's sizable holdings give it the power to influence their labor policies, and yet Harvard has taken...

...delighted to see your coverage of the world-renowned Nobel Prizes and the brief survey of winners who merited the award and those who were overlooked [SCIENCE, Oct. 16]. But I was dismayed at the item "Three Who Should Never Have Won." Medical science is under constant revision. What is state of the art today may not be tomorrow, as new discoveries lead to a revision of our understanding of how things work. So it's everyone's gain that on her latest effort, Williams has settled into a groove that allows her to indulge her mannerisms without losing the thread...

...Olympus and Polaroid. It features a built-right-in printer that churns out copies of your digital snapshots on the spot, just like a conventional Polaroid. Its 2.1-megapixel images and 8MB memory card aren't too shabby, either. At $799 the C-211 is definitely a "prosumer" item, but it hints at better (and cheaper) things to come...
