Last week in Palo Alto, amid the pomp of an academic convocation, President J. E. Wallace Sterling dedicated Stanford's handsome new $21 million medical center (complete with 434-bed hospital), designed by Manhattan Architect Edward D. Stone (TIME, March 31, 1958). For the university's med students, who can now fulfill their degree requirements without commuting to another campus, the center is an unqualified blessing.
