More and more Americans are doing just that. They have discovered that they can usually buy Ralph Lauren shirts, Jaeger sweaters and Albert Nipon dresses for 30% to 60% below retail by shopping at off-price stores. Since 1979, sales at Syms, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and similar outlets have more than doubled, to an estimated $7 billion. Industry analysts expect them to continue to grow at an average pace of 20% to 25% a year. She retired once, for a year, after whining her sixth Wimbledon singles championship in 1975 (she has collected 20 Wimbledon titles in all) and stepped away again momentarily...
Evans finished her illustrious junior career last summer with a number 24 singles ranking in the national 18s. She has notched wins over Tracy Austin and Andrea Jaeger, and she continues to show the promise of her younger days...
Admissions deans and test-makers alike say they are aware that both SAT and Achievement scores are limited as indicators of intrinsic talent. As a result, Harvard stress a network of factors including grades, recommendations, interviews, and application essays. Adds Dartmouth's Jaeger "If we were sure that numbers tell-all, we could choose a class in seconds...
