...Madam Chancellor, You Look Marvelous! I was jarred by some of the descriptions of the German Chancellor in "Merkel's Moment" [Jan. 11]. While the article does a nice job of summing up Angela Merkel's rise through the sexist ranks of German politics, it contradicts itself by using such outdated gender stereotypes as diminutive, frail and kittenish to describe the first female Chancellor of Germany. Though subtle, this sort of language is damaging. One step forward, three steps back. And to think, the writer is a woman. Kate Karczewski Chicago...

For her latest album IRM - which will be released on Jan. 26 in the U.S. and most of Europe - she teamed up with eclectic alt-rocker Beck. "He wrote all of the music and lyrics, but we really had an exchange. The album is very close to me," she says. In sessions at Beck's studio in Los Angeles, Gainsbourg tried...
...very British affair. Chaired by a former public servant, Sir John Chilcot, the inquiry has been marked by polite probing rather than electrifying cut and thrust. Yet for all the lack of drama to date, seats for the appearance of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, expected to take place Jan. 29, are in such demand that a ballot for them has had to be organized...
