Michael Kinsley's essay "God Is Black" made a strong argument that the presence and voices of James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman have influenced how America hears the voice of truth and authority [Jan. 26]. But there were others who set the stage. We cannot ignore the influence of Southern-raised black televangelists. And even more so, James Weldon Johnson's famous poem "The Creation," which is written in the black idiom: And God stepped out on space, And he looked around and said: I'm lonely-- I'll make me a world. ...follow-up coverage to your profile of Timothy Geithner, you describe his problem as failing to pay part of his taxes in 2001-02 but neglect to mention 2003-04 [Jan. 26]. Yes, he paid them with penalties and interest but only after he was caught, first by the IRS and again by Obama's transition team. The election is over; TIME should get back to factual reporting. Thank you, Mr. Young, for getting it right...

...disappointed in your choice of Hugh Hefner for 10 Questions [Jan. 26]. His statement "Embracing sexuality is part of what it means to be free" makes sense until one remembers that actions have consequences. Many of our moral, social and health challenges today--unplanned pregnancies, poverty, AIDS, STDs, etc.--are a result of the sexual freedom Hefner so eagerly promotes. These problems will not be solved by encouraging more sexual freedom. Allison McKee, ARLINGTON...

...appreciate your bringing attention to borderline personality disorder but was dismayed that people suffering from BPD were repeatedly referred to as "borderlines" [Jan. 19]. This disrespectful terminology perpetuates the stigmatization these people face--most brutally among those in the mental-health profession. There are women and men who suffer from BPD, but that is not their identifying characteristic. Michele Pilz, KEENE...
