Tokyo cowed Paris? The supplies of munitions moving across French Indo-China into Central China and thence to Generalissimo Chiang were halted on orders from Paris last week. Rumors that Japan had threatened to seize the Chinese island of Hainan and use it as a base to bomb the French-owned Indo-Chinese Yunnan Railway if the supplies were not cut off, were officially denied by the French and Japanese Governments-but within 24 hours President Henry Berenger of the French Senate Foreign Affairs Committee blurted a sensational statement that these rumors were substantially correct. "I am not betraying," fibbed...
Dirigibles. For non-stop schedules to Japan, Australia, South America and Africa, the report recommends the economic superiority of helium-filled dirigibles carrying 200 passengers, estimates their cost at $4,000,000 each. Of their safety it says, "While their size makes them vulnerable in high winds when making ground contacts (which are no hardship whatever to airplanes-rather, an advantage), nevertheless, the impossibility of slowing an airplane down brings with it a certain element of risk not present in the dirigible...

Died. Admiral Baron Sotokichi Uriu, 80, last surviving Japanese graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy (Class of 1881), campaigner in the Sino-Japanese and Russo-Japanese Wars; in Odawara, Japan. Last week Emperor Hirohito posthumously decorated him with the Grand Cordon of the Imperial Order of the Rising Sun with Paulownia Flowers...
