...rise of Charles de Gaulle's France to new prominence, more and more French Canadians are openly talking about a separate Quebec. Yet the fear of economic hardship, among other things, discourages many Quebeckers from taking separatism seriously-it would be a "disaster," says Quebec's Premier Jean Lesage. On its own, however, Quebec is seeking capital from the U.S. and trade ties with France, in 1961 opened a $340,000 Maison du Quebec in Paris...
...shown. The Chicago Daily News, a reasonable paper in other respects, used to paint out the nipples of male wrestlers and other shirtless athletes. The Atlanta Journal supplies shirts. Before passing an ad for the movie The Love Makers, in which Claudia Cardinale reposes on the chest of Jean-Paul Belmondo, the Journal daubed a tunic on Belmondo. In Southern California, where seminudity is a way of life, the Los Angeles Times does its best to spare readers what they can see on any beach...
With the blessings of Jean Jacques Rousseau's atavistic philosophy, les animaliers abandoned the Greek and Renaissance art, which idealized man, and started ennobling the beasts. The three children of Harvard Professor Jean-Claude Martin were comfortable in a six-room house, but they are blooming in the 17-room baroque relic of the 1870s that he bought two years ago in Newton, Mass. "Each of the children has a room of his own," says Mrs. Martin, "and they can sit in corners...
Doulos-The Finger Man. Lippy Jean-Paul Belmondo, who first made crime pay as a pint-size Bogart in Breathless, now proves himself a magnum Cagney who can rough up a moll in vintage Chicago style. When Jean-Paul wants blonde Thérèse to rat on a pal, he slugs her, ties her wrists to her ankles, loops a belt around her neck and lashes it to a radiator pipe, gags her, decants a bottle of Haig & Haig over her while she's down, slugs her again.
