Mitchell's testimony on the period before the June 17 arrests at the Watergate clashed head-on with the testimony of Jeb Stuart Magruder, the Nixon committee's former deputy director. Magruder had insisted that Mitchell had clearly, if reluctantly, approved the Democratic wiretapping at the third meeting at Key Biscayne on March 30, 1972.
