...this little journal, which is a continuation of his Journal of Our Days, published in 1934. It begins with Nock setting out by steamer for Florida and ends after his 1935 vacation in Belgium. His notations are casual and apparently aimless: he notes the appearance of a handsome Jewess on the ship, the drab, suburban-New Jersey-type architecture of parts of Florida. He comments on book reviewers and publishers, Mrs. Roosevelt, Anthony Adverse, Shakespeare and the prose of subway advertisements. ...Israel recently an American ex-Army captain tried to marry a Jewess. A rabbi refused to officiate (because the captain was not a Jew); ditto a district commissioner (because he was not a British subject). Anti-Semitism ... is the most horrible blow yet suffered by Our Lord in His ever continuous Passion...

But with the arrival of the Nazi regime he not only played in Germany, but ousted the Jews from his orchestra before he was even requested to. Fischer is now a Professor at the Conservatory of Lucerne, whose Meisterkurs for piano draws him 500 francs per pupil per year (ten lessons). He gives recitals throughout Switzerland and will appear in London next month...
