Many Democrats like to think of Barack Obama as a reincarnated JFK, but his congressional colleagues reached further back in time Monday to resurrect FDR and his pump-priming New Deal jobs program to help bolster a wobbly economy. "We need to address the fragility of markets, the stability of our economy," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said as she prepared to meet behind closed doors to talk about the contours of a $150 billion stimulus plan with a high-powered squad of liberal economists including Joseph Stiglitz and Lawrence Summers, both of whom held senior posts during the Clinton Administration...

...Schieffer was in the Star-Telegram newsroom when JFK was shot in Dallas. A little while later, a call came in from Marguerite Oswald, mother of Lee Harvey Oswald, the suspected assassin in the JFK shooting. At her request, Schieffer and another reporter drove Mrs. Oswald to Dallas where her son was being held, and took statements from her on the way there of which Schieffer says: "She was making these outrageous statements, statements that were so outrageous that I didn't include some of them ... ...President, Poppy is depicted as having the strength to use U.S. military might to push Iraqi troops out of Kuwait and the wisdom - not the weakness - to stop short of Baghdad. Stone seems to admire him more than any other President he's depicted. (In JFK, Kennedy was a hallowed ghost figure.) His Bush Sr. might be a Lyndon Johnson who somehow got the country in and out of Vietnam with a win and few U.S. casualties. This 41 - this war hero, this fearless leader - could never have been impersonated on Saturday Night Live by Dana Carvey...

...needs to be destroyed!” and “We are gonna abolish July Fourth!”).The plot? Michael Malone decides to abolish the Fourth of July, but before he can do so, three ghosts (George Washington, General Patton, and JFK) appear to him in Dickens-like fashion to “Teach him the true meaning of patriotism.”It seems clear that this film was created for a conservative audience, or if nothing else, a xenophobic, interventionalist, sexist, and racist one. With this conservative comedy in mind, I started thinking about...
