...Senate, in 1990, Bradley got a comeuppance. While pundits were writing about his presidential ambitions, he was almost beaten by Republican Christine Todd Whitman--then a political novice, now New Jersey's Governor. To many, Bradley seemed out of touch with his state, and he refused to denounce Governor Jim Florio for a series of tax increases that had cost Florio his popularity. On this trip out, Chicago-based producers John McEntire and Jim O'Rourke provide Stereolab with a rich, layered sound, leaving behind the cold Cologne sound of 1997's Dots and Loops. Cobra and Phases Groups is the band's longest album, clocking in over 75 minutes. But this never becomes a strain, and the songs distinguish themselves nicely. Gone...
