...least 1990, when, according to former Clinton strategist Dick Morris, she considered running for Arkansas Governor if Bill decided not to stand for re-election.) The simple pleasure she takes in campaigning--probing genuinely serious policy issues; meeting people who regard her with thunderstruck awe, as if she were Joan of Arc in a minivan--may seem banal, but it's crucial to the whole venture. If it weren't fun, she'd pull the plug, but right now that's about as likely as her switching to the G.O.P. She told a group of reporters last Thursday...
...policy experience can we afford to have as President? Remember Ronald Reagan's jelly beans and cue cards? Now we have a telegenic, Teflon-coated, lightweight candidate who is known for having an office almost bereft of books. The core of Campaign 2000 is the candidacy of Bill Bradley. Oddly enough, after running Didion's vehement objections to the project, the New Yorker published an excerpt from True at First Light...
This is Calista Flockhart the serious actress, not the flighty Ally McBeal, talking. She has appeared in stage readings of Eve Ensler's Necessary Targets, about Bosnian women refugees, and wants to tackle such roles as St. Joan, Miss Julie and Sally Bowles in I Am a Camera, the precursor to Cabaret. The hard part, of course, will be finding the time. Bash is running for just over a month, and the day after it finishes she'll be back in Los Angeles to start shooting the new season of Ally McBeal. "There's an intensity in the live experience...
