...cover is Wheeler's sixth in less than a year. His first was Nov. 8, 1968, illustrating President Johnson's announcement of the bombing halt. The others included France's De Gaulle and the money crisis (Nov. 29, 1968), conglomerates (March 7, 1969), the military under attack (April 11, 1969), and the Communist summit (June 13, 1969). ...probably the last Chief Executive who would do so. Dwight Eisenhower went regularly to the National Presbyterian Church; since the murder of John Kennedy, the Secret Service has frowned on that because of the predictable pattern it could create for potential assassins. The freewheeling, ecumenical church-hopping of Lyndon Johnson created a different kind of security problem, as well as a weekly show. Its interim report, to be released this month, will recommend, among other measures, that all erotic wares in the marketplace be stamped Adult Material...

Any cooling will be particularly welcome to President Nixon, who is beginning to bear the blame in the public's mind for the inflation that he inherited from the Johnson Administration. Louis Harris reported last week that only 32% of the people in his poll commended Nixon's handling of inflation, and 46% criticized it. The survey made clear that Americans believe that inflation has become a personal crisis for everybody, but few are willing to endure real personal sacrifices to curb it. By a vote of 79% to 6%, people who were polled thought that...
