...this election, it's felt as of the Democrats were ready to get back into the White House while the GOP was preparing to enter the wilderness," said Joshua S. Downer '09, "but Palin has completed the unification between McCain's brand and the GOP's brand...

Through unlikely circumstances proposed by director Joshua Michael Stern and co-writer Jason Richman, the presidential race is so tight that New Mexico's electoral votes will make the difference. The state is dead-even in the popular tally, and a ballot with Bud's name on it gets stuck in a machine without registering his preference. The election has come down, literally, to one man, one vote. Yes, Bud (with a lot of help from the much savvier Molly) will choose the next President. He has 10 days to hand in his vote...

...This is a watershed moment because for many of these people, these kinds of statements - by themselves or from other detainees - are all the evidence there is," says Joshua Dratel, a New York City lawyer who represented terror suspect David Hicks during the Australian's stay at Guantánamo. "For the high-value detainees, there's an acknowledgement that a lot more [was done] to them in the black sites - waterboarding and other serious forms of abuse - and you really have to wonder if anything said under those conditions can be [considered] reliable and fair [evidence...

Of the three, Martin Sheen's Lee is the most startling...

...More Children for China? In his facile commentary "The Family Way," Joshua Kurlantzick makes ending China's one-child policy sound as easy as baking a cake [June 9]. He airily dismisses the economic and other benefits of controlling a cripplingly high birth rate. Certainly, some consequences of the one-child policy are repellent from a First-World perspective, but emotions and poorly thought-through conclusions make little contribution to informed debate. Kurlantzick implicitly contradicts himself, foreseeing "a [future] severe labor shortage" while reminding us that in the past, "unequal sex ratios, which left men idle, contributed to armed rebellion...
