Techniques found in an art like Aikido can stop attacks without permanently harming the opponent; Tae Kwon Do contains debilitating counterattacks. Styles such as Jujitsu (old) and Kenpo (newer) show examples of both kicks and "throws." (Practitioners, please pardon my very general definitions!)
