...misfit at Heath High School in West Paducah, Ky., one who occasionally wore ill-fitting, loud-colored clothes and had a couple of disciplinary problems (browsing the Playboy Website, digging a sharp object into a wall). But Carneal could also discuss the Shakespeare play assigned to class (Romeo and Juliet) with allusions to other works by the Bard. Strong was a senior and Carneal a freshman, and, says Strong, "We're in distinctly different social classes," with Carneal the son of a prominent lawyer. But they were friends, and both played in the brass section of the band. "He just...

...kind of like Romeo and Juliet, only Juliet is a married teacher who gave birth to the daughter of Romeo, who was her student in a sixth-grade classroom. O.K., it's nothing like Romeo and Juliet, but it sure is weird. The attractive Seattle teacher, MARY KAY LETOURNEAU, 35, who gave birth to the burly pupil's daughter this year, had been claiming mutual, consensual love. But last week she tearfully apologized in court and was sentenced to six months in prison--instead of the maximum 7 1/2--after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree child rape. LeTourneau...

Danes filmed I Love You, I Love You Not before last year's Romeo and Juliet. One wonders whether she would choose to do this film now. It is clear that she wants to make movies that are original and artistically diverse. In this production, there is no scene of reconciliation between the Capulets and Montagues after the deaths of their children. Instead, we end with collapse of Romeo and Juliet, in a passionate embrace, in front of the tomb--an image that's striking in its very simplicity, and that comes closest to capturing the full power of Shakespeare's play.Boston BalletArtistry and technical finesse make PATRICK ARMAND and POLLYANA RIBEIRO an ideal Romeo and Juliet...

...seems as though Pelzig choreographed the ballet first and then tried to add the Prokofiev score piecemeal to the different scenes; on several occasions, the music and steps clash instead of blending together. During one of the most sweeping and dynamic moments in the music, Juliet stands unmoving, simply staring out the window. During the Capulets' ballroom scene, against the darkly throbbing beat maintained by the brass, the dancers go through a ridiculous melange of half-flamenco, half karate-chop arm movements, shattering the image created by the music...
