...spared in Hans-Jurgen Syberberg's seven-hour misty epic, Our Hitler, least of all the audience. Syberberg seeks to resurrect Hitler and pit him against the world he left behind--a filmic judgment day for Der Fuhrer--and the audience is forced to look into its own eyes. Confusion. No connections. No conclusions. "The results are exhilarating, confounding, and not at all closeended," critic David A. Rosse from the University of California at Berkeley, correctly pointed out. Ultimately, your judgment of Syberberg's Hitler hinges on how you judge your most intimate self...
...most notorious of the arrested terrorists was Brigitte Mohnhaupt, 28, a onetime journalism student who is a suspect in the murders of both Dresdner Bank Chairman Jurgen Ponto last July and of kidnaped Industrialist Hanns-Martin Schleyer last October. Peter Boock, 26, and Sieglinde Hofmann, 33, are also suspects in the killings. Rolf Clemens Wagner, 33, was on the wanted list not only for participating in the Ponto and Schleyer atrocities, but also for the 1977 ambush murder of West German Prosecutor Siegfried Buback...
Schleyer was the tenth target of West German terrorists to die in the past year. Another victim was Captain Jurgen Schumann, 37, pilot of the skyjacked Lufthansa jet. In a fit of irrational fury, the terrorist leader, who called himself "Walter Mahmud," killed Schumann with a single pistol shot when the plane was on the ground in Aden, Southern Yemen. Schumann's body was pushed down the plane's emergency exit chute at Mogadishu. Had it not been for the skill of the rescuing commandos, many, if not all, of the terrified hostages might have suffered similar fates. According...

The leader of the group screamed into the open radio that he was "Captain Walter Mahmud" and that the craft was now under his "supervision and control." Lufthansa's immediate problem was keeping track of the plane, a Boeing 737 twin jet bound for Frankfurt. It had only a short-range VHP transmitter for intra-European communication and was unable to keep contact with Frankfurt...
...impunity with which the terrorists have struck over the past five months has hit West Germany's business community hard. Several businessmen last week recalled an odd incident. After the head of Germany's Dresdener Bank, Jurgen Ponto, was murdered in July, some of his friends gathered for a memorial service in Sensbachtal, where Ponto had kept a hunting lodge. Looking around the room, which contained some of the biggest names in German industry and politics, one man remarked, "The next victim of terrorism is almost certainly standing in this room now." The speaker was Hanns-Martin Schleyer...
