Robert Ardrey, 71, dramatist and self-trained anthropologist whose works on man's origins and behavior, among them African Genesis (1961) and The Territorial Imperative (1966) promoted popular interest in the once-obscure field that he made his specialty; of lung cancer; in Kalk Bay, South Africa, where he had lived since 1978.
