When Physics Professor Wendell Furry and Research Assistant Leon Kamin took the Fifth Amendment before Joseph McCarthy's Senate investigating committee in 1953-54, McCarthy demanded that they be fired, but Harvard's new president, Nathan Pusey, refused.
